Mission Statement
Our mission is to provide those we serve opportunities for wellness through integrated mental and physical healthcare, support services and affordable housing.
Vantage Health System is committed to a treatment philosophy of recovery and wellness. In contrast to the traditional medical model based on the treatment of illness, a recovery model is based on the goals, preferences, interests and strengths of the individual. Recovery is defined as the personal process of overcoming the negative impact of a mental illness, despite its continued presence. Individuals who are in recovery from mental illness move from a state of dependency to interdependency, and live from a perspective of hope.
The recovery process is determined by the client, and the clinician serves as a coach/consultant to the client. With the client’s input, the clinician and client work collaboratively to develop a recovery plan. Focus is on the client’s strengths, on the interventions which will facilitate his/her recovery, and on the resources which will support the recovery process. Very important among the resources are family and friends, as identified by and with the permission of the client, who can provide support.
A lifestyle is encouraged in which the client:
a) assumes an active role
b) accepts personal responsibility and motivation
c) engages in meaningful, productive activity
The quality of one’s life is viewed from a holistic approach based on a perspective of balance, including the social, behavioral, vocational, educational and spiritual components, as well as the traditional medical and emotional/psychological.
Key principles of recovery for empowering the client are:
developing a sense of hope in the future
finding a useful place within the community
focusing on strengths and the potential for wellness
emphasizing the client’s control over self and environment in order to promote a sense of mastery
