Engineering Intern

July 2020 • Anaheim, CA

What I liked

The people I work with are extremely nice and helpful. They answer all questions I have and are patient with me if I don't understand something. The work is also quite enjoyable! I am either assembling parts for an order, fixing machines around the shop, working on 3D models, or creating Bill of Materials. There is alwyas something that I could be doing and I feel that I am getting a very hands on experience during a time when most learning and internships are online.

What I wish was different

Only on this I wish was different is that the engineer before me was a little moer organized with their filing on the computer. It's something that I am going to keep in mind after I graduate. If something is unorganized only one person can navigate it but if it is organized everyone can.

Advice

Don't be the quite intern. They know you don't have your degree yet so ask questions and make conversation. It's the best way for you to network and gain more knowledge! Apart from this, if you have the time, take on other projects that aren't required of you. For example I wasn't hired as an intern to fix the machines or tradshow pieces but I am! Apart from possibly more networking it shows your employer you have good work ethic. It will open more doors for you in the future and also improve your standard of yourself when in your career later on.
