“As a McNair scholar, I took a giant leap into the world of research. I learned about the "behind the scenes" aspects of bench-science and the enormous time commitment that is academic research. I gained valuable people skills, research skills, and critical thinking skills. As a McNair scholar we visited graduate schools across the country and I was able to experience culture and diverse viewpoint that I would never have imagined. I got to present my research at several different academic institutions and I gained confidence and pride in myself and my intellectual ability.”
