Utah State Courts

Intern

May - July 2020 • St. George, UT

What I liked

The internship was a lot of observing the job of a Guardian ad Litem. It was hands-on in the sense that I got to be a part of the cases, which including going on home visits, researching precedent, and attending court hearings. Everyone that I worked with included me when they had something coming up that they thought would be a good experience for me. When I completed my internship I felt as if I had a pretty good understanding of what it is like being a Guardian ad Litem.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been more eager to ask for writing assignments. However, writing and drafting is something that I talked a lot about with my supervising attorney and while I wasn't able to formally draft anything I was given the opportunity to conduct research which if needed, I could've used that for a writing project.

Advice

Don't be shy and ask questions. Everyone at the office is willing to help you and share their experiences with you, so take advantage of that.
