I liked that we got a chance to Take certain courses, Talk with healthcare professionals of all sorts, learn professionalism skills, and mental health sessions.
What I wish was different
The pacing of classes was very difficult to keep up with as a person that was new to this career field.
Advice
This experience will really show you the true side of any health-care related graduate schools. I decided that I did not want to pursue nursing as a career.

What I liked
I loved that I got to shadow a dentist and make pre-health friends. The connections that I made have absolutely changed my life so I am very grateful for this experience.
What I wish was different
I wish the internship was longer because the experience was very valuable.
Advice
I would recommend any pre-health student to do this internship. I advise people to go with an open mind and be open to making great connections with people from other states.

Summer Health Professional Education Program Scholar

What I liked
Great networking and exposure for studnets interested in pursuing a health professional career. A well-recognized national program that focuses on minorities and underrepresented students in health care and focuses on interdisciplinary fields of healthcare and disparities within the current system.
What I wish was different
It was a lot of sitting in classes all day to "simulate" a first year of health graduate school and not as much hands on exposure as I would've liked.
Advice
Apply! You meet people from all over the country and it really broadens your perspective while setting you up with a good network for health-related field success.

What I liked
The individuals I encountered at the site from Deans to professors to students were incredible. Everyone wanted each other to succeed. We all encourage and motivate one another. In addition, the TAs and RAs always answered questions and made us feel very comfortable. They kept it real with us, no sugar coating and let it be known that we could text or call them about anything.
What I wish was different
The two thing I wish was different was that we could get more hands on experience instead of only once a week in our fields and that the days weren't so long five days a week.
Advice
Network, You don't know who you could meet. Also, ask questions because this is the time to get the answers you once did not know about previously or want more details about.
