IT Support Specialist
April 2020 • Salt Lake City, UT
What I liked
I liked being able to be taught while using that which I was learning. It was stressful at first, but nice to start doing technical things early on.
What I wish was different
Since I joined during the pandemic, it has been difficult to meet the entire team at my job. Working with them is not as personal since I have only met some of them once or twice. There are only a few who I have never met.
Advice
Just because there are still weird situations with Corona, it doesn't mean that internships are unavailable. I got mine in one of the worst times, for example. You never know until you apply.

CNA
November 2016 • Salt Lake City, UT
What I liked
I enjoy the ability to continually have opportunities to learn more in the field of medicine. I work with transplant patients and this has created a lot of learning opportunity for me in understanding the functions of the kidneys and liver. This has also allowed me to see the process of recovery that the patient undergoes after a major surgery and allows me the opportunity to aid in that recovery.
What I wish was different
The beginning work schedule is hard with rotating days and nights while attending school. This can definitely get better as you gain more experience and more seniority.
Advice
Taking a job such as a CNA is definitely important if you are looking into going into nursing or any where in the medical field. This experience will not only help you choose what career you want to go in but it can help you be sure you like that field before putting in the time and money in school.

Finance and Data Analytics Intern
May - August 2019 • Salt Lake City, UT
What I liked
Great opportunity to learn and grow in this capacity. My preceptor was great and patiently taught me.
What I wish was different
I don't think I would change anything. Great environment and culture at the University of Utah Health.
Advice
You'll be surprised about the amount of hard skills you'll be able to pick up. I was able to become extremely proficient in Microsoft Excel, I learned how to use Tableau and BOE. By the end of the internship I was pulling queries from the hospital data warehouse, cleaning them up in Excel, and creating meaningful reports and dashboards in Tableau that can give meaningful insights and improve decision making.
