I liked the process of researching and learning on my own. I liked being part of a larger project with a clear goal and path, but plenty to learn along the way.
What I wish was different
I wish there had been no lockdown, so I was able to do hands-on lab work.
Advice
I would advise students to communicate more with their research advisor(s) and take more initiative in completing their parts of the project.
