Summer Research Intern

May - July 2018 • Pittsburgh, PA

What I liked

I loved the opportunity to be in a big-time research lab. The exposure has helped me because there’s not a lot of opportunities for science researchers at my institution. I also enjoyed working in my lab on the HIV virus.

What I wish was different

I wish we had a chance to experience different labs as well, in the very beginning. I wanted some healthy exploration to give us a idea of what type of research opportunities were offered at Pitt. Also, it prepares you for the overall experience in grad school.

Advice

One piece of advice I would give for anyone wanting to pursue the SURP program at Pitt is to make sure you have a good basis of knowledge about some chemistry, and biology because it helps when you get in the lab. It makes it a whole lot easier to understand basic concepts.
