What I wish was different

Nothing at all. I LOVE this job.

Advice

It is important to take in every interaction and every conversation you have. Every little bit and detail helps the learning process. Every conversation with a patient builds you up. Every explanation for every exercise teaches you something new to learn about that field. Every interaction shows the type of person you are.

Certified Nursing Assistant

May 2018 • Pittsburgh, PA

What I liked

I loved getting hands- on patient care experience in a clinical setting and finally getting a real first experience in health care, which is what I will be pursuing as a career. The certification process was also made very easy by UPMC. They offer paid training through classroom and clinical experience, pay for the certification exam, and then immediately offer you a job at your selected skilled nursing home/ rehabilitation center.

What I wish was different

I wish I had started this job last summer.

Advice

It is a tough job that involves a lot of hard work physically and mentally, so you have to be a very committed individual who truly has a passion for helping people in a health care setting. Its a really great experience for anyone who is looking to pursue a job in health care, especially for those who need to obtain a ton of patient care hours before applying to their graduate programs.
