Lab assistant
June - August 2019 • Norman, OK
What I liked
I definitely enjoyed the entire experience. What I liked most was the fact that I was actually working in a chemistry lab getting hands on experience.
What I wish was different
I only wish I would have taken my car with me so that I could have explored the city more without having to pay for Ubers. I could have taken it, but I did not want to add 6 hours worth of miles to it.
Advice
Look at your work outside of the lab and ask for help! I did pretty well in my chemistry classes but it took a lot of studying. So, of course, I had to do a lot of studying the information to stay on top of everything.

Meteorology Student Researcher - Research Experience for Undergraduates
May - July 2020 • Norman, OK
What I liked
I absolutely adored every single faculty member and graduate student from OU that I worked with. They made me feel comfortable asking questions, however ridiculous they may have seemed. We also covered a lot more topics than strictly meteorology and research. We had various Q&A sessions with current graduate students people already working in the field that helped us get a better view of how we might want to progress our careers, and what steps we would need to take to get there.
What I wish was different
Apart from wishing we had been able to meet in person I was thrilled with my experience.
Advice
You do not have to know everything going into your research experience. I came into meteorology from math, and there were a lot of things I learned very quickly to help me get on my feet. It's okay to feel overwhelmed, just make a plan for every day. There are people there to help you.
