You need to be self motivated. If you are there just for a job, you are in the wrong place. Make a large effort to learn, study the programs you will be using, make mistakes and fail upwards to push yourself farther faster and you will earn the respect of everyone there.

Undergraduate Researcher

May - July 2019 • South Bend, IN

What I liked

I enjoyed getting research experience and working with my group of 4 graduate students and 3 different professors.

What I wish was different

I wasn't sure what to expect from research (or from a job in general) since this was my first experience but I guess I had expected there to be more collaboration while I worked on my project. But it might just be that research is generally more so an independent venture.

Advice

Build a close connection with your principal investigator, fellow undergraduate researchers and graduate students! I've learned a lot from them about their career decisions and their words of advice.

What I liked

My research mentor allowed me to do a very independent research.
