I loved how I was able to undertake projects involving long-term debt, cash management, capital planning, financial modeling, credit analysis, real estate, and insurance. I also absolutely loved the people I worked with!
What I wish was different
I wish there was more time to connect with senior colleagues.
Advice
Take the time and initiative to get to know your colleagues, they can become really great mentors.

What I liked
Opportunity to explore different fields of research and areas in Physics
What I wish was different
More visits to college campuses to learn about their graduate programs (we visited MSU, and it was very informative; I wish we could have done it to other places too)
Advice
Be open to all opportunities and activities that happen on campus over the summer, it's a great opportunity to explore the city, meet new people, and learn about resources on campus we often overlook

What I liked
I liked being able to see my progress visually. The design process is dynamic, and I like to learn and practice different skills. It is certainly not monotonous. Also -- I got to input and implement my own design ideas, which was super cool to see.
What I wish was different
I think it would have been to cool to be more involved in the research and ideas process rather than just implementation, but I came into the project after it hit the ground.
Advice
Don't get stuck on ideas in the beginning. Be open to change and prepared to dump something you spent hours of work on - don't settle for a mediocre design. Also, don't doubt yourself. Sometimes tasks seemed way out of my scope, but I received this position out of my own merit. Confidence is a huge component to success.

What I liked
I loved being able to complete a research experience from start to finish and learning what it is like to be a full-time researcher like I will be in graduate school. I liked the collaborative environment with the other members of the lab I worked in.
What I wish was different
I wish I had been able to interact with more researchers outside of my department. I also would have liked to have had an opportunity over the summer to share the research I had completed.
Advice
Being in the lab all day can be a lot at first, but you learn to love it! It is a great way to learn if this is a path you can see in your future.

Flexibility
What I wish was different
More types of work. I primarily did a literature review. I wish there was more quantitative work.
Advice
Do your work early rather than last minute. That way you can ask the professors questions earlier in the week.

What I liked
The professor and team I worked with were amazing at stressing growth opportunities. They gave every resource needed to succeed and were very helpful but also allowed me to step out of my comfort zone at times.
What I wish was different
I wish it could have been in-person, although that was not a huge negative. All of the work was done just as effectively remotely.
Advice
For future students: expect this to be a learning opportunity as much as research, in a good way. You will learn a ton throughout the summer, so come prepared. It is not overwhelming work, but make sure to always be eager to take on more work whenever possible, so as to learn as much as you can.

What I liked
I loved getting to work with EEG technology to understand brain function during sleep and being able to gain experience in both data collection and analysis thanks to the variety of ongoing projects in the lab.
What I wish was different
I wish the experience had lasted longer! I hope to do similar work in the future.
Advice
Ask questions - you can never know too much about the work you're doing.
