They allowed you to work up to 40 hours in the summer which was really nice. The people there are amazing and it really seems like a family !
What I wish was different
I wish I had worked more than I did this summer.
Advice
Get to know the full time staff. They are great resources for you to have and can really help you if you just talk to then. Also get to know your coworkers, because they can make work fun for you and time flies when you're having fun.

Biology Laboratory Assistant
September 2019 - December 2020 • Reno, NV
What I liked
I enjoyed getting to interact with professors at UNR and gained skills in an ecology lab
What I wish was different
I wish I would have had more opportunities to do essential biology experiment procedures, like gel electrophoresis and PCR.
Advice
When entering your first lab position, many times, you will start out as a volunteer and do a lot of the tasks noone else wants to do (i.e. dishwashing and "scut" work). However, if you stick with it, you will advance to being trusted with more duties and even potentially a paid position.

Athletics Marketing Intern
August 2019 • Reno, NV
What I liked
I really enjoy working in athletics. As someone that enjoys sports, this is an absolute treat. Not only do I get to watch the game but also being able to be on the sidelines and giving fans the best time at the game. It is always fun when I run into the coaches and being able to speak with them and really being almost a part of the team. It is amazing to see how many responsibilities we are tasked with when it comes to gameday, and every sport is different with the responsibilities.
What I wish was different
There is nothing that I wish would be different.
Advice
Always get involved and even though there is no pay, give every ounce of energy and effort because you never know what will happen in the future. Put that extra time in and not only do what you are supposed to do but give the helping hand whenever you can. Don't be afraid to combine something you like with a career you want to be in. By combining sports and marketing, I have been very grateful for this opportunity.

Student Teacher
July 2019 • Reno, NV
What I liked
I was taking classes at the same time I was working and it's definitely hard to balance, but I really enjoy being able to bond with the kids at the daycare I work with on campus under the CFRC. It's a great learning experience not only with kids but how to communicate better with other people as well.
What I wish was different
I wish I wasn't taking a class over summer at the same time but I'm glad to have gotten it all over with.
Advice
Only do this job if you really care about the kids and want to put the effort into getting to know them. It's going to be hard and you're going to be frustrated at first, but once you learn about each kid and you form that bond, you wouldn't want to leave.

What I wish was different
I wish we were making more money through the university, $8.50 an hour minimum wage doesn’t pay anyone’s bills and they cut out hours over summer. Not worth the time ...

What I liked
I enjoyed being able to support and represent the indigenous people and tribes without areas.
What I wish was different
I wish I was able to work more!

I learned to be experimental and look for new ways to create. Often people don't know what they want and bringing new ideas is a good way to start a base to build on.
