It was a very comprehensive experience in regards to graduate level research and networking. REU opportunities are really helpful with contextualizing the type of work you may do in higher level education and will be a strong reference when applying to graduate school.
What I wish was different
The options and specific catering towards you talents and interests tends to be a mixed bag and your mileage may vary in what project you're chosen for. You will be expected to cater the project more towards the scope of your PI and won't be given the complete freedom you may receive in a regular graduate program, but some flexibility to write a research paper that would better fit your goals for graduate school would be appreciated.
Advice
Put your best foot forward with the work you do in the program. This opportunity was a first for many earlier undergraduate students and allows you to work on a poster presentation and contribute significantly to a paper which may extend to future work, allowing you to present at conferences and begin networking.
