Summer Intern

May - July 2019 • Columbia, MO

What I liked

I loved being able to explore the different avenues of the scientific process. I also truly enjoyed learning lab protocols, that experience made me a stronger scientist.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had the opportunity to see other labs and how they operate day to day. Observing in the lab is one of the most underrated and valuable experiences an aspiring clinician can have.

Advice

This experience is not for the weak. It takes a lot of hard work, discipline and persistence to do well in the lab. Especially because I took summer classes and the internship. The biggest thing I would say to someone looking for a summer experience is to never underestimate yourself. You never know what you're truly capable of until you're put in the arena to find out.

Working for the University as an intern was a great experience. The internship program in place at MU was extremely helpful and I really appreciate the career building advice I got along the way.

Because I didn't have a specific office or designated space for my internship, finding hours to work that fit into my schedule was very beneficial, but I felt like I was distanced from the program by being off campus or not having a home base.

Advice
