Undergraduate Researcher

May 2018 • Ann Arbor, MI

What I liked

I really enjoyed the level of independence I had to get my work done every single day the way I wanted to do it. Even with all of the control in my hands, I still made sure to use my resources effectively and get second opinions when I wasn't sure what to do next.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had found this opportunity earlier on in the year so that I could have prepared for it better. I only just secured my position as winter semester was ending, so I spent a lot of time my first weeks just getting up to speed on the project.

Advice

Undergraduate research is a valuable experience that really cultivates your independent critical thinking skills which are vital no matter what path you take following graduation. Even if grad school isn't in your future plans, I think most students should still give research a chance.
