It was pretty cool to help the scientists. They also had meetings where they would order food and students were always invited.

Marketing representative

February 2019 - October 2020 • Iowa City, IA

What I liked

Day to day was a little different everyday, so it really keeps you on your toes. It also provides very applicable real-world experience in school which can be hard to come by. Although it is a year position, they prefer to keep you on for all of your university time which is great.

What I wish was different

Under normal circumstances, there should be more marketing representatives. I felt overwhelmed at times due to the number of clients and projects I had.

Advice

Be creative and have fun with the projects, the client and you will be happier!

Undergraduate Research Assistant

February 2020 • Iowa City, IA

What I liked

What I wish was different

Advice

If you are worried about getting out there and getting involved in research, just do it. If you’re worried about anything regarding presenting a poster, going to a conference, talking to people, anything at all, just do it. You won’t know if you’ll succeed in a field unless you dive face-first into it. Face your fears with confidence and, more often than not, you’ll be just fine.

Marketing Intern

August 2019 • Iowa City, IA

What I liked

I love the atmosphere and the willingness to allow my responsibility to show. I am given projects and give the opportunity to explore different ways of thinking.

What I wish was different

I wish COVID didn’t require us to move virtually. However, that is something that is out of all our controls and I feel we have continued constant communication .

Advice

I would highly recommend working for the Parking and Transportation department in any form you can. Not only is a marketing internship great opportunity, but so is their bus driving position and other student management roles.
