University of Hawai'i at Manoa

Undergraduate Researcher

May - July 2021 • Honolulu, HI

What I liked

I liked that this position didn't only cover biological aspects of Hawaii, but I also learned a great deal about Hawaii's culture and history. In addition, spending weekends hiking and at the beach didn't hurt.

What I wish was different

I wish there would have been a little more communication about what was happening, as well as some more clarity on transportation on the island.

Advice

This experience was amazing. If you have the opportunity to apply, you should really do it.

Summer Field Intern

June - August 2018 • Schofield Barracks, HI

What I liked

Riding helicopters almost once or twice a week, seeing remote areas on the island inaccessible by the public, and working to preserve endemic/indigenous/reintroduced species of plants and animals on Oahu's remote native ecosystems, listed under the Endangered Species Act.

What I wish was different

I wish school didn't have to start again and I could've extended my internship!

Advice

Always learn something about everything, and everything about something.
