Public Health Research Intern

What I liked

I got to work with a professor who was directly involved in developing vaccination plans for the country, so the research we were doing on trends in diseases felt incredibly relevant and important. I led an independent project on sex differences in Lyme Disease and compared data from the United States and Canada for my analysis. I also got to attend classes at the university offered to masters students in public health.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been a bit more guidance for the independent project, I felt like I was completely on my own and just wanted to make sure that my work would be helpful to his work in the grand scheme of things.

Advice

Take initiative! If there's something you're interested in or passionate about, I would definitely recommend telling your coworkers about that interest and ask them for ways in which you can pursue your own goals while still helping them with their research.
