“The lab I worked in this summer was a perfect match for me. Our research in the lab focused on analytical chemistry with an emphasis on infant nutrition and biomarkers using a number of mass spectrometry methods. I was able to do my own study on breast-milk proteins and glycoproteins because of the vital role they play in infants' lives by providing nutrition and aiding in the defense against pathogens. Since there is very little quantitative information on the post-translational modification (PTM) glycosylation, my project focused on the the quantification of human milk proteins and their site specific glycosylation. This experience allowed me to decide that I would like to continue to pursue a career in pediatric research.”
