What I liked

Very hands on, worked on a project with a small team.

Nondestructive Testing Functional Manager

January 2018 • Scott Air Force Base, IL

What I liked

The opportunity to research aspects of Additive Manufacturing capabilities for the Air force. Learn and understand the material properties of polymer, thermoplastic polymers, and metal AM printed parts. Also understanding that with such capability you will need to formulate a sound quality control measure to control and guarantee the production of the parts manufactured at the different operating bases and strategic repair nodes throughout the continental US.

What I wish was different

The strenuous process of gathering metrics and quantifying different data streams to showcase the advantages of addtitive manufacturing technology. Also, understanding which companies are excelling in this capability over others to ensure that I recieved adequate and credible information on the different types of printers. Gauging the true scope of what industry is doing in comparison to what academia has already achieved in controlled experiments.

Advice

That there is a lot of fear that surrounds new technology or sciences when it is introduced to in uninformed populace. I faced countless nay sayers when I was advancing to the next stages of my research. There was alot of disbelief in the fact that the industries were already printing metal additive parts. This type of thinking created alot of risk adverse behaviors that stifled creativity and the pursuit of advancement. If you believe in something to be the best course of action then keep striving to achieve it. You will need to do a lot of convincing along the way, but once you have the facts and the data to support it then you will not be hindered by disbelief and paranoia.

Program Director

August 2015 - September 2019 • Hurlburt Field, FL

What I liked

Working with students-I was the medical program director for a military training squadron. I scheduled paramedics to go out into the field with the students, and was able to assist with many events. (I am also an EMT). I also Organized many mass casualty events that involved multiple organizations in the area.

What I wish was different

Not much. More recognition would be nice. It was a great squadron to work for and all my teammates were wonderful.

Advice

Don't sweat the small stuff. If there are things that you can't control, don't let yourself get worked up over it. Don't be afraid to speak up if you see something that is wrong. Help people where you can, and direct them to others if it's something you can't help them with.
