This was a completely new experience for me being an Academic Counselor for Upward Bound's summer program. I liked being able to work with the High school students in the program on their college application process and also on class work they had to complete through out the duration of the summer program. I admired being a mentor to the students. In addition I also enjoyed staying on the SUNY New Paltz campus in general.
What I wish was different
I did not enjoy working with the co workers that I had as I felt that they were very unorganized and rude. So I wish that could have been different but I also learned a lot from that and also bettered my knowledge of emotional intelligence.
Advice
One piece of advice I would share about this experience is to one to always stay true to you and remember what you are in it for (the students). Also yes it is a tiring job but make the best out of it cause at the conclusion of the program you feel so accomplished and happy that you've impacted the lives of younger individuals in ways you probably would have never thought.
