It was a comprehensive combination of different facets of public policy. I regularly got exposed to new researchers and their work. That paired well with the researched-oriented professors. The flexibility of placement at a host entity for internship was great.
What I wish was different
It might be nice if there were an option to take the internship over two consecutive quarters - whether in a deeper immersion or as a way of breaking up the program into smaller pieces. The only thing I really wish had been different was for me not to have caught COVID-19 during the internship. Accommodations for that were great.
Advice
When considering the host entity to be placed with through UCCS, try to communicate as openly as you can about your plans and interests. Both my work experience and prelaw status led me to be the only in my cohort to intern with a certain state watchdog agency.
