I have really enjoyed my internship with the USFWS. Not only is it a paid internship, but the agency really invests in its interns and provides a wide range of training opportunities based on your individual interests.
What I wish was different
I wish the USFWS would create training schedules/progression lists for longer term interns (ex. for Career Pathways Interns) based on their preferred specialization (Visitor Services, Wildlife Biology, Wildlife Management, etc.) in order to better ensure these types of interns are well prepared and trained for the job series they wish to convert into.
Advice
I would recommend students participate in a wide variety of summer internships with the service in various locations and in diverse job series to get a better idea of what field they wish to pursue both post graduation, but also during college so they can select more applicable elective courses as well.
