Army Officer Candidate

July - August 2019 • Anchorage, AK

What I liked

- On the job training environment - Full acceptance into JBER (joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson) community - Assignment to several different chaplains varying in a wealth of backgrounds and roles - Inclusion into Army field training environments - Opportunity to witness several events such as military funerals, pre-marital counselings, Strong Bonds events, religious services, and change of command ceremonies.

What I wish was different

The ability to travel throughout Alaska and witness the abundance of nature and beauty that is offered throughout the summer months. The opportunity to attend airborne school before attending such training in order to participate in airborne operations.

Advice

Enter into every situation with personal bias not present and the ability to have an open mind. Chaplaincy is a demanding, but rewarding field that requires an individual to always be compassionate to others. Bring a smile and a listening ear to every occasion.
