Prepared Foods Engineering Intern

May - July 2022 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

I had the opportunity to see multiple plants

What I wish was different

I wasn’t around a lot of people day to day and I feel like I didn’t have the opportunity to learn as much as I would have liked because of it, I think being based out of a plant might have been a better use of my limited time

Advice

Meet as many people as you can in any internship you do and also as you’re applying to internships, be sure to look at the job description well and make sure it’s something that excites you and it can become part of what you talk about more specifically in interviews

Tax intern

March 2021 • Springdale, AR

What I liked

The team collaboration component, the usage of different applications and softwares, the relaxed and flexible scheduling, the pay, and the difficulty of my work assignments.

What I wish was different

I wish I started working in office sooner, and I wish that some aspects of the communication and work assignments were more intentional and well thought-out.

Advice

Communicate effectively. Never be afraid to ask questions and ask someone to repeat themselves. It is better to ask for help than to spend a lot of time trying to figure things out.

Employment Clerk

May 2019 • Lexington, NE

What I liked

I enjoyed being able to work with a variation of people everyday. I really like talking to people and this job allowed me to do that. It was also a job that kept me busy, hardly ever had any down time. I like that. I also enjoyed listening to the background of different people and just being able to help people that came into the office.

What I wish was different

One thing I wish had been different would probably have been to be able to do more in my position. Since I'm a part timer there, I was limited to how much I could do, however, I did gain the trust of a lot of employees in a higher position than me, so I was still able to help them out a lot, but not as much as I wish.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share about this experience is to not be shy of getting out of your comfort zone. For the 19 years of life I've lived, I would have never thought that I would be one to have an office job. I've always had a fast food job, retail job, and even jobs that included lots of labor. I decided to apply for this office job and I got it and I can see how much more I've grown as a person but even as an employee.

Sales Strategy Intern

June - August 2018 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

Tyson gave me a couple of major projects and then let me work on them on my own. The internship was a very independent internship, which was great because I was able to learn on my own, and learn from doing.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship was a couple weeks longer. It felt like it ended very abruptly, and so a couple more weeks, would have allowed me to finish some projects a little better, and wrap up the internship better.

Advice

One piece of advice that I would have is to ask questions. Don't be afraid to ask your manager something, even if it's simple. They are there to help you, and they know that you may not know everything just yet, and will do everything they can to help.
