Full-Stack Software Developer

What I liked

I enjoyed working as a Full-stack developer where I had the opportunity to work with my fellow interns. Throughout the internship, I was able to take different roles and be involved in all the stages of the software development cycle. Overall the people are very well organized and always there to help, especially the CEO.

What I wish was different

Advice

Be ready to take on different roles as it is part of the internship.

Financial Analyst Intern

January 2022 • Dover, DE

What I liked

I enjoyed connecting with my fellow interns. My favorite kind of assignment was filling out analytics reports. DIving deep into the company's mission, ESG, Management, and some of their financials was really enjoyable.

What I wish was different

I wish that the tasks I did were more closely related to my position.

Advice

The advice I'd give to a future intern is to have an open schedule throughout the week so you aren't forced to work all hours at the end of the week.

Financial Analyst Intern

January 2022 • Dover, DE

What I liked

I liked working on analyzing companies and formatting analytic reports. I also liked how my internship was not only focused on Finance, but also Marketing as well. I got the opportunity to work with TutorDudes social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook.

What I wish was different

I wish that there would've been some in person experience, where I actually got to meet my peers. Another thing I wish that had been different was having more financial-oriented assignments. For example, not just analytic reports, but also on the other side of finance such as credit loans.

Advice

One piece of advice that I would share about this experience would be to do your assignments in a timely manner. Even though, you might think the tasks can be completed in a short amount of time, that actually might not be the case. Remember to plan out your assignments for the week.

Tutor Specialist

October 2019 • Fairfax, VA

What I liked

Flexible schedule, flexible clientele, opportunities to grow, scheduling is easy, and each session gives you room to personalize/tailor them to each individual client.

What I wish was different

I wish that we could conduct more in-person sessions.

Advice

Because this is practically a brand new business, there won't be a large pile of clientele that you can work with. I've noticed, though, that as you continue to push your presence in the tutoring community, clients tend to drift towards you. Make sure that you're marketing yourself, the company, and your mission!

Full-Stack Software Engineer

June - August 2021 • Dover, DE

What I liked

It's a great experience to get familiar with Django framework. I really liked the chatbox feature and the stripe API part. The chatbox is a challenging job which is kinda fun. The Stripe API is pretty useful for the company to receive payment. Deployment is also an operation that I'm really enjoyed.

What I wish was different

The learning curve was kinda out of my expectations.

Advice

Try to build a simple Django project before you work on all the projects we have at TutorDudes, that will help you to understand the whole structure of the project.

Software Engineer Intern

May - August 2021 • Dover, DE

What I liked

One aspect of working at TutorDudes that I liked was the freedom offered and a flexible schedule. A large portion of working as an intern was problem solving on your own, combined with a group effort when required. You also have a greater responsibility as you are more than often in charge of big projects.

What I wish was different

A better communication platform and perhaps a more formally defined structure in the team

Advice

Must be ready to take on projects and different responsibilities as it is a startup. How much value you get from the job depends on how much effort you put in.

Web Marketing Intern

What I liked

I like how Arya cares a lot about us interns and what we would like to get out of the internship. Tasks are given each week and we are able to complete them at our own time and pace. Tasks are straightforward, questions are welcome, and feedbacks are great!

What I wish was different

I wish I had the opportunity to do this internship in person. Due to covid and living across the country, this internship has to be remote.

Financial Analyst Intern

December 2020 • Dover, DE

What I liked

First of all, I liked the position because it is my major and I can do well in the valuation assignments I was assigned. Next, the assignments my boss gave to me were not easy but manageble. For example, I did some valuation data to evaluate the process of company. I also created some blueprints and flowcharts demonstrating the process of learning and working. Those are valuable experiences for me.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have had more 1 to 1 meeting in the process. Next, I wish I could have had more accurate and specific instructions when beginning assignments because those suggestions could have had helped me deal with the confusion I faced.

Advice

Come prepared and ready to learn.

Software Engineer Intern

December 2020 • Dover, DE

What I liked

Having experience with developing an android based mobile application is very valuable to me since I have been studying mobile applications a lot before. There is no problem with group work with other interns and COO at TutorDudes. The entire team tries to help each other and share their knowledge via one to one meeting and group chat.

What I wish was different

As an engineer, if there was a specific instruction for setting up the work environment such as Git, Java version, etc, it makes it easier to jump into the existing project.

Advice

Like every other engineering position, the basic knowledge of developing a mobile application is required.

Software Engineer Intern

November 2020 • Fairfax, VA

What I liked

I enjoyed the freedoms given to interns and the flexible work environment. I was assigned to implement music and sound effects in the game that we are creating. Teaching myself how to implement music and code Android applications was an invaluable learning experience, and collaborating with a small team has helped me get better at working with others.

What I wish was different

Some expectations such as due dates are a little ambitious for unpaid interns, but not impossible.

Advice

Since this is a startup, there is not much structure so you should try to be responsible for your own work.
