Tucson Electric Power Company

Customer Analytics

May 2019 • Tucson, AZ

What I liked

Very flexible workplace with a ton of way to learn more about the energy sector. Intern events, excel classes, great staff of people. I shadowed people doing stuff I had interest in, it was really what I could make of it.

What I wish was different

Office life is quiet, days always seemed long. Parking garage always filled up so sometimes had to pay for meter parking if I showed up later. I wish I had the drive to meet people and talk to more strangers in the cubicle graveyard.

Advice

Meet people and say hi to everyone. Be friendly, it goes a long way. Don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it, they should not expect you to know everything immediately. Let yourself struggle but still make sure to enjoy life and take a day off to celebrate your achievements.

Accounting Intern

May - August 2019 • Springerville, AZ

What I liked

I loved the work that I did and the people I worked with. They made the long days worth it and it was kind of sad to leave them and come back to school.

What I wish was different

A previous intern at this location was not very efficient and as a result, the team here didn't have lots of work to keep me occupied. Many days I had nothing to do and I hope in the future the team has more work for their interns to do.

Advice

I would try to get as much experience as possible. I was able to visit different departments and work with them which was nice because I got a more rounded experience that helped me understand the company better.

Student Intern-Tax Services

May 2019 • Tucson, AZ

What I liked

I’ve been getting great experience in the tax department which will be very beneficial for my future. Plus, I would like to stay with the company after I graduate so I’m able to demonstrate my work ethic and build relationships.

What I wish was different

I wish it was an actual position instead of an internship so that it would feel more stable.

Advice

I would absolutely recommend applying for internships in your field of study. You’re able to see what a position in that field looks like day to day and it will help you decide if it is a good fit.

Customer Care Intern

June 2018 • Tucson, AZ

What I liked

I enjoy the environment my coworkers bring as well as the on hands experience I'm available to have through things such as reports. I especially like how TEP as a company respects that we are student first and employees second. I have learned many things from my job that I have been able to use throughout my classess

What I wish was different

Currently I have no suggestions for things to be different.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share about this experience is to go to the intern events that they have available. At the events they not only teach you new and useful material, but you are also able to network with other people in other departments.
