About Truth Initiative

Truth Initiative® is America’s largest non-profit public health organization dedicated to making tobacco use a thing of the past. We speak, seek and spread the truth about tobacco through education, tobacco-control research and policy studies, and community activism and engagement.

We’ve helped bring teen cigarette use down from 23 percent in 2000 to 7 percent in 2015. We’re proud of that success, but our work won’t stop until we achieve a culture where all youth and young adults reject tobacco.

Known previously as American Legacy Foundation, we were established as part of the 1998 Master Settlement Agreement between major U.S. tobacco companies and 46 U.S. states, the District of Columbia and five territories.

“I really enjoyed the opportunity to hone my professional skills both in and out of the office. I was able to learn how to navigate professional events, congressional hearings and in-office work. I also had access to internal learning opportunities and workshops that enhanced my understanding of the company's cause.”

“I was very involved and busy each and every day - there was never a dull moment. I felt like I was doing important and useful work that was furthering the team's missions and goals. Even the tedious work didn't feel like busy work. Great work environment - upbeat, casual, and energetic. Really good lunches were provided twice a week as well as breakfast every morning. The smaller size of the team meant that I was able to form close relationships with my coworkers. ”
