Technician

May - August 2019 • Oklahoma City, OK

What I liked

The people were amazing, and I loved learning about the process behind titanium dioxide production and paint mixing and testing. The interns had the chance to visit the main plant in Mississippi, which was interesting and a great learning experience.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had been able to learn more about the analytical side of what they do there.

Advice

This is a great opportunity to learn, even if it's not what you plan to do as a career. It helps you understand more about paint and different testing techniques. It is also a good opportunity to put all of your lab safety knowledge into action. It's real-world experience outside of your lab courses. Pay attention and learn as much as you can.

Supply Chain Center of Excellence Intern

March - November 2019 • Oklahoma City, OK

What I liked

Amazing experience! I was able to connect really well with my supervisor and I saw him as a mentor as well. I felt comfortable and stretched simultaneously in my role and was given new projects and concepts to think about on a recurring basis. I felt helpful and valued, and I learned from each interaction with fellow employees as well as vendors or customers. I even got to go on a trip to their plant in Hamilton, MS to see another world of the business, especially pertaining to the supply chain department. I learned more about the breadth and depth of supply chain and felt more strong in the decision of my major and taking classes going into my senior year of undergrad. Would highly recommend!

What I wish was different

I wish there had been maybe some more interns especially in my department, more facilitated intern interactions. I also wish there had been more of a set check-in schedule to check progress and give new projects so interns don't feel that there is down time when they have to wait to speak with and bother their boss about new work to be done.

Advice

Be yourself! Be confident in your strengths and how they would serve you well but be open and willing to work on your weaknesses.
