Undergraduate Research Assistant

June - July 2019 • Hartford, CT

What I liked

I liked that I lived close to where I worked. Also, the transition from the school semester to working over the summer was easy. Every Tuesday we met to speak about careers and each other's research (and included lunch) so that was something to look forward to every week. Very manageable time commitment.

I loved being able to think creatively to come up with a historical research project that interests me. I also liked the guidance that my research adviser gave me.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have had more time to do my secondary research prior to the summer so that I could have dived into primary document research during the bulk of my time studying.

Advice

I would recommend anyone who is a rising senior who plans on writing a thesis to reach out to their college and see if there are opportunities to get funding for research costs and campus living the summer before their senior year.
