What I liked

I really like the work environment. Really positive employees and encouraging mates and captain (managers).

What I wish was different

The onboarding process took a while. I applied in early June and didn't get the job until July.

Advice

This job is very customer oriented and you spend a lot of time on your feet. I would say you have to prepare yourself both mentally and physically everyday before the job.

What I liked

Access to networking with so many people from my community, city, and those transiting through my area.

What I wish was different

The company should start compensation rates at 15/Hr. across all locations. Given the work conditions, demands of the job, and the culture of the retail locations, many of which are high grossing locations. Feeling less drained from constant customer engagement; and that feeling translating to fatigue due to constant demand by leadership to preform. These variables paired together, without higher compensation could contribute to higher turn over rates and fewer retention rates.

Advice

Anyone that calls themselves "people friendly, customer focused, or claims to be driven by fulfilling client needs" or any variation of being a good customer servant, should challenge themselves to work at a Trader Joe's. The Trader Joe's operations model will open one's eyes to what it means to give good customer service... if you can go through it and hold your complaints.
