Server

April - August 2019 • Fargo, ND

What I liked

I loved the interactions I had and the connections I made with older adults. I felt like my work was meaningful in the sense that sometimes I was one of the only people who made them smile and bought them joy throughout the day. Even though I was just serving food, it was much, much more than that.

What I wish was different

I wish that I would have been scheduled more consistent shifts; some days I would work eleven hours, others three.

Advice

Go in with an open mind; many people tend to think that residents in retirement communities are boring and mean, but its the exact opposite. Be willing to learn from them!
