UI/UX Designer Intern

June - August 2019 • Bethesda, MD

What I liked

The office environment was so welcoming. The people really cared that their interns were getting a good experience and learning new skills. I got to meet with higher-ups in the company on a regular basis. They promote a healthy work-life balance.

What I wish was different

I wish I was closer, the traffic was terrible. I also wish that they had healthier snacks.

Advice

Do not not be interested in a company just because they are not well known for design. If they have a struggling website but are building up their design team that gives the designers more room to explore and change. Unlike in larger design companies where it could take months to change the gradient on a button this companie makes big changes.

April 2018 • Lexington, KY

What I liked

I liked how the company seems to really care about their employees rather than just making money. They require us to give monthly feedback, and offer ways to move up in the company.

What I wish was different

The job title I was expecting is not the job I received. I applied to be a merchandiser or sales rep and they offered me the position of a cashier instead since I never had experience with working at a liquor store, and being a cashier really isn't fulfilling when you're completing the same tasks every time you work.

Advice

I have learned a lot about sales and become more of a people person throughout my experience. I believe my customer service has rapidly increased since I started working here.

Merchandiser

June - August 2018 • Maple Grove, MN

What I liked

The ability to work 60 hours per week to make as much money as possible.

What I wish was different

Work was pretty backbreaking, certainly understaffed and management had unrealistic expectations for merchandise team.

Advice

Finish school instead!!!
