Advice

The advice I would give is that to always bring a positive attitude and a sense of humor to work. There's a lot of people who may come through super cranky and may complain about everything, but remember that you're doing the best you can possibly do and you're also doing your job by keeping a smile on your face, staying positive, and bringing a sense of humor every day.

May - August 2018 • Kearney, NE

What I liked

I liked that it was pretty fast paced, and that I usually had something to be doing so I wasn't just standing around. Most of the customers at this Wendy's in particular were very friendly so I had very few issues with customers. Most of my coworkers and managers were friendly too so it definitely felt like we were on a team and I wasn't afraid to ask anyone for help if I needed it.

What I wish was different

I wish that I could have had more hours than I did because for a big portion of the summer they had me work 16 hour work weeks which wasn't enough.

Advice

Getting used to the pace takes a little bit so in the beginning don't be afraid to ask for help because it's definitely better than making too many mistakes.

What I liked

The night shifts were always a ton of fun, especially if you became friends with your peers and managers. The hours were extremely flexible as well with an emphasis on the ability to work around school and extracurricular activities.

What I wish was different

I wish the turnover rate wasn't so high at my location, it seemed I was always covering someone else's shift because they had quit on the spot or were fired.

Advice

Try not to be discouraged too easily by the workload, especially during rushes. There were numerous times during my first week or so that I thought about quitting. But after you get used to it the work isn't very difficult.

What I liked

Working with a team to get food out quickly and maintain high quality standards, I loved working with a friendly team of experienced workers.

What I wish was different

The equipment was pretty new, but I do wish that the system that displayed what needed to be cooked and what was done, was improved upon.

Advice

I would tell people about the importance of working together and being on the same page, without effective communication, countless orders would be missing items, or messed up in having the wrong ingredients.
