The University of Arizona Cancer Center

Cancer Research Data Specialist

July - October 2019 • Tucson, AZ

What I liked

Good work environment, and very friendly coworkers.

What I wish was different

I wish they had hired me in May rather than in July. Very unfriendly HR management.

Advice

Don’t trust people who promise to get you a job. Always have a back up plan in case of delays or complications. In my case, a lady from HR didn’t like me for some reason, and so she stalled my application at every step of the way, delaying my effective hiring date by two and a half months.

Lifestyle Coach

June 2017 • Tucson, AZ

What I liked

I liked working with women who have survived ovarian cancer because it taught me how to be empathetic toward individuals who have fought through a harsh disease as such.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have spent more time taking care of my own mental and physical health. There were times where I was so overwhelmed and stressed with both school and work, I didn't take time to enjoy some of my hobbies, which took a toll on my overall well-being.

Advice

An advise I have for someone who is or would like to be a health coach is to take the time for self care. A job like this can be very emotionally draining, so staying in check with yourself will enhance your ability to help others.

What I liked

I got to experience the inside of an operating room standing right next to the surgeon

What I wish was different

I wish I would have known how to dress more professionally
