The Springs Living

Caregiver

September 2013 • Sherwood, OR

What I liked

This was my very first experience caregiving. My coworkers, supervisors, and seniors I cared for were welcoming. It was nice to work at a job that had meaning - I knew that the work I was doing had a direct impact on the happiness and health of the seniors I cared for. There were lots of opportunities to grow and learn new skills.

What I wish was different

Advice

It's a great way to get hands on patient care experience looking to start any health care career. You don't need previous experience to be a caregiver in this setting - you are given training with lots of ongoing education. There were a lot of employees who would work seasonally on breaks or year round. The Springs worked with our schedules and were very flexible and helpful. When caregiving if you're willing to learn and listen to the residents you will learn a lot - but you need to be open to going outside of your comfort zone. Caring for others is intimidating until you try it, you won't regret it, it's so much fun!
