The Salvation Army- Camp Ladore

Lifeguard

June - August 2018 • Waymart, PA

What I liked

I liked the community the camp had to offer. It was very unique seeing people came from everywhere, some were from Philadelphia PA, Manchester UK, Liverpool UK, etc. Then there was me from Bradford, NY. People would joke saying, "Oh, New York City!?" I also loved working with the children. The camp kept telling us that we, as a staff, will be impacting the children's lives, but I thought it was the children who impacted my life!

What I wish was different

I just wish that the camp had better communication in it's leadership staff. It seemed like my work area boss didn't know what was going on until last minute. I know that especially with a summer camp you just need to be really flexible, but that is no excuse for a flaw, which that is what they said when the leaders in the camp asked for feed-back.

Advice

Have an experience! Sometimes the best college jobs don't pay the best money, but go with what you want to do and what will be the most fun and experiential to you. My dad would always say, "This is your chance to have fun at your work. Now, I'm not saying you'll never have fun at work again, but I'm saying college is the time to have that much fun at your work before the 'really world'."
