Case Manager (Social Work)

June 2020 • Grand Rapids, MI

What I liked

I enjoy managing my own tasks and time. As long as I stay on top of my case load, I am in most ways my own boss. I have a supervisor to go to (frequently) with any questions. Working for the county looks good professionally; and being a social worker means you are always in a competitive field, and I am always needed. I enjoy having a very structured, straight-to-the-point desk job.

What I wish was different

I wish there weren't so many cooks in the kitchen with my job. There are many people involved in cases I have; and the county is slow to let us know what is going on with any changes.

Advice

If you are going into social work as a career, be prepared that your workload will be feast or famine. I am extremely stressed right now; but there have been times were work is slow. Be comfortable (obviously) working with many people at once.

Martial Arts Instructor

June 2017 • San Diego, CA

What I liked

The leadership training, personal fulfilment, and building a father-like relationship with my martial arts master.

What I wish was different

I wish COVID didn't happen so we may continue working.

Advice

Be prepared to be humbled and enjoy the process. Teaching Martial Arts is a life long pursuit and should not be taken lightly.
