The Ragon Institute of MGH, MIT and Harvard

Biology Research Intern

June - August 2017 • Cambridge, MA

What I liked

The program was incredibly supportive. I enjoyed faculty lunches and a weekly immunology lecture. I was encouraged to think and grow as a scientists with many hands on projects and reasonable responsibilities.

What I wish was different

Possibly cheaper housing options

Advice

You get out what you put in. The effort you put into your research projects is noticed, so I encourage other students to get very involved and curious!

Summer Student Researcher

June - August 2019 • Cambridge, MA

What I liked

I liked the work environment at Ragon the most. Every employee was so driven and passionate about scientific research. They always took time to explain everything and wanted to make sure I learned as much as possible in my time there. Every employee was extremely intelligent, kind, and extremely hard-working.

What I wish was different

Advice

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. If you don’t understand something, people are more than willing to explain things to you.

Summer Student Researcher

June 2018 • Cambridge, MA

What I liked

I enjoyed doing real world projects and being a part of such an advanced team of scientists who were determined to find answers that would contribute to the fight against infectious disease. I also enjoyed how it was a learning environment, since I haven't had much lab or work experience within my major, this was a great stepping stone.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have been able to find cheap housing in Cambridge since my commute was long and if I left work at the wrong time it would take forever to get back home.

Advice

Work hard everyday and really focus on learning the basics. It really depends who you work with and what their expectations are but if you apply yourself you will not regret the experience. Also, find housing/sublet from someone at MIT.

Summer Research Assistant

May - August 2018 • Cambridge, MA

What I liked

- Great mentor - Very interesting research projects - Chance to publish research - Interesting work environment; there were many very interesting PIs at the institute

What I wish was different

I wish that my internship involved more collaboration. My PI for the summer does not manage a lab, which meant that I worked on my projects by myself instead of being part of a team.

Advice

Know which professor you want to work with before you apply and make your motivations clear in the application.
