I liked how hands on my internship was. Everyday I would commute to the city before getting a call from the news desk to tell me which story to cover. I got to interview people with very different backgrounds and stories to tell. I loved how everyday was different and I got to cover hard news in the country's biggest media market. I also really enjoyed working with the photographers as well. I got to learn from them since many of them had years of experience. Additionally, I got to work with the other interns on some stories and learn from them as well.
What I wish was different
I wish the internship got to start on time. Originally, we were supposed to start in June, however due to the pandemic we started in July. I give The Post a lot of credit for staying with the program and giving me the opportunity to cover stories for them.
Advice
To any future intern, I would say reach out to people and connect with them even if they are not in your department. Although I was a news intern, I reached out to multiple sports writers as well. In addition, when you are covering a story talk to other reporters about their advice and try to learn from them.
