What I liked

I like how organized the whole program is. Matt has been running three internship programs a year for a really long time and definitely knows how to successfully set one up. He makes the meetings fun but still informative and tries to incorporate games into the topics we are reviewing. Every day has a whole new topic which ties into what we've learned in the prior weeks. I have learned so much so far and always look forward going in to learn more!

What I wish was different

I wish there was more time in office or a second part of the internship. The information that is taught is really valuable information for anyone thinking about working in wealth management and stuff you won't learn in any classes at ASU. I just wish there was an opportunity to go more in depth and see more back end work apart from the clients.

Advice

One piece of advice is to make sure you walk into the office every time knowing/remembering everything you've been taught. There will be quizzes and he will call on you and expect an answer from you. Matt really values teaching others and watching his interns learn the field of wealth management, so if he doesn't see any learning happening, he doesn't believe anyones time is going to a good use . Another piece of advice is to try to find another job or internship that can work around the days that you will be in the office. While the internship is tons of valuable information, there is not much of a time commitment outside of the office other than trying to find clients. You can definitely have time for another opportunity to enhance your career even further.

Private Wealth Management Intern

May - August 2021 • Tempe, AZ

What I liked

I love the experience I am able to obtain directly from the teachings of the President of M Group and Associates, Matt Mamolen. He does a great job of really making sure we understand the content and are able to apply the teachings to a case study or real life scenarios.

What I wish was different

I do not wish for any part of the internship to be different seeing as we are able to learn, firsthand, in an office, and in person- in which a lot of other internships are unable to provide.

Advice

One piece of advice is to always be prepared to be challenged and pushed to be the best intern you can be. It is a great internship if you put in what you would like to get out of it in the end.

Private Wealth Management Intern

May 2021 • Tempe, AZ

What I liked

Undoubtedly the greatest aspect of this internship was the learning experience. Most of the topics covered are extremely practical wealth management tools that you will probably not cover in college. I feel very confident that the tools that I learned from this internship will greatly aid me in my career as well as in my personal management of money.

What I wish was different

It definitely would have been nice to spend more time in the office! Although I learned so much from this internship, it definitely would have been nice to learn a little bit more about what Matt (the president of the company) does on a daily basis.

Advice

This is a great internship if you are comfortable talking to/selling to people. You are expected to use your current network to find more clients, so I highly suggest that if you apply for this internship, you have that level of comfort to talk to potential clientele!

What I liked

I liked the educational experience and feel of the internship. Matt kept information interesting and made a positive experience for myself and my peers. I liked how we got to see what was actually done in this career as opposed to a typical college lecture learning environment.

What I wish was different

Just wish it was more than once a week.

Advice

smaller workload, but that means you have to stay on top of everything that is expected. Also comfortable with sales is good.

Financial Planning Intern

May - August 2019 • Tempe, AZ

What I liked

I enjoyed the learning aspect of this firm. The president of this firm taught us various concepts of wealth management and he also provided us with hands-on experience as well.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship was not heavily focused on the sales side as it was difficult to find customers that were willing to invest.

Advice

The best way you will learn the concepts is with hand-on experience so try your best to find clients for the firm.
