Administrative Support

May - August 2019 • San Diego, CA

What I liked

I liked the ability to learn from a different industry type than I was used to. Also, I had to ability to work more independently than I was used to which help myself grow as an employee.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had the opportunity to work within a different department for some of my time during the internship.

Advice

A piece of advice that I would give about this experience would be that, if possible, to try and work at a place where you have the opportunity to work independently so that one is able to grow themselves as an employee and also to learn how you work as a person inside an industry.

Technical Sales Engineering Intern

May - August 2019 • Kansas City, KS

What I liked

I absolutely loved my internship with Lincoln Electric I was treated like a actual tech sales representative and got to work directly with customers. I loved everything second of it.

What I wish was different

I wouldn’t really change anything

Advice

As with everything in life you get out what you put into it. If you aren’t willing to put in the work, travel, and learn then you wouldn’t get as much out of the experience. The work life balance was good but there was a lot of traveling in your own car during the week so it’s important to have a decent vehicle and be willing to travel for a couple days at a time. All mileage is reimbursed at .48¢ a mile and hotels and food are paid for so its not really a negative just something to be aware of. Also its sales so the ability to talk to people is important but don't feel like you have to have sales experience to succeed, as long as you are willing to learn and give a good effort everyone at lincoln is helping and will do everything they can to help you succeed.

What I wish was different

I wish the hours weren’t so brutal. I was leaving my house for work at 4 in the morning.

It’s a tough job, but between the pay and the experience, I can’t imagine a different internship for a sophomore undergraduate.

Engineering Intern/Co-op (2 Semesters)

September 2018 - August 2019 • Euclid, OH

What I liked

It is clear that everyone you work alongside wanted me to grow and challenged me to do better. Being able to work at the headquarters was a wonderful experience because it opened me up to meeting many important people in the company (including the CEO) and everyone is more than happy to share career and life advice. The Human Resources team and supervisors I worked for were also very adamant about making sure I was enjoying my work and felt like I was making an impact. Lincoln Electrics co-op and intern program is wonderfully designed with lunch and learn opportunities and plenty of networking events; the team behind it continues to make it more amazing every year.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have set more concrete goals for my professional development and checked in with my supervisor more often on those topics. I don't doubt that they would have taken the time to do so.

Advice

Recognize that this is a learning experience and ask as many questions as possible to make sure you are on the same page as the person you are working with. Communication can make or break a project/internship.
