The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (Official)

Campaign Intern

May - August 2018 • Minneapolis, MN

What I liked

I loved the work environment. The people who work there are some of the kindest that I have ever met. It also was nice working on many different projects, and I found it fascinating working on the other side of a non-profit. It gave me insight as to how the infrastructure of a nonprofit might work.

What I wish was different

I wish that I was given more larger projects or a mixer of large and small projects. I could spend weeks working on a project, but when I was done, there would not be much else to do or it would take some time before I would receive my next task. As someone who likes to constantly be working, I would have much rather been given more tasks.

Advice

Walk in with a list of what you want to get out of the internship!! That way, Michele is able to give you the tasks which will help you gain the experience in which you are seeking. Be proactive about what you want to gain from this experience.

Marketing & Communications Intern

January - April 2017 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

I loved that I was working toward a cause. The office environment is very casual and friendly. I liked that being my boss's only intern meant that I was very involved in every aspect of his activities.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been given (and had asked for) more feedback on the work I was doing.

Advice

Try and get involved with everything and everyone. The marketing department is not the only place where marketing is needed. Every employee in any department could use the advice or help of the marketing intern.
