LEGO retail sales associate

May - August 2019 • The Woodlands, TX

What I liked

This was pretty much the most fun job experience I have ever had for a summer. I got to demo Lego sets and build during my shifts. When I wasn't doing that, I was helping customers find sets and working the register.

What I wish was different

Shipment wasn't that great. It was just because not enough people were trained in doing the shipments. By myself, being thin and 5'1 lifting heavy boxes was not a fun experience, but this was only 5 hours once a week. Also, shipment was always at 8 am, which was not fun for the summer.

Advice

If you're thinking about working here for the summer and you couldn't find a summer internship, do it. Just have fun with it, and inspire others to build.

What I liked

I loved being able to help people pick out the right gift. It was also fun getting creative with bricks for displays.

What I wish was different

There were a few difficult repeat customers that I wish I had known how to deal with better.

Advice

Retail is always retail, and it’s going to be tough. But if you can find a retail job that has a great environment and coworkers that you get along with really well it can be a fun experience! Find some way to relate what you’re doing to what you want to be doing.
