Biology Laboratory Assistant
August 2018 • Baltimore, MD
What I liked
I enjoyed the people I met and the new laboratory techniques I learned through this position. I have worked with this group for over a year now and have assumed many new responsibilities during that time. I feel like I have become an important part to the team of the Cutaneous Nerve Lab. I have had the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of working in a pathology laboratory and have picked up on medical terminology and learned about different diseases pertinent to the lab.
What I wish was different
I wish that there was more for me to do at the beginning. It is hard starting in a new lab with people who have never worked with you before because they do not know your capabilities and it takes some time to pick up on new techniques and routines. However, the longer I have worked with this group, the more opportunities I have had!
Advice
In laboratory jobs, it is very important to show your interest. Never assume that simply doing what you're told conveys your interest in the lab's work. The more questions you ask and the more effort you put into improving your technique and knowledge, the more responsibilities and opportunities you will be given.

Clinical Nurse Extern
June 2019 • Baltimore, MD
What I liked
My co-workers, the environment, how I had to critically think, and the full-time paychecks.
What I wish was different
I just wish my employer was more organized as to what my duties were throughout the summer and I also wish I was allowed to float to different units to be sure the one that I was assigned was where I wanted to be.
Advice
To all nursing majors, you should do an internship the summer between your Junior and Senior year. This will help you gain clinical experience and allow you to know what you like/dislike in a potential employer. Having an internship at a hospital also allowed me to apply the information that I learned throughout the semester within my job field. I also have a guaranteed job, if I choose to accept it, after graduation.

Biology Research Intern
June - August 2019 • Baltimore, MD
What I liked
I got a lot of research experience out of this, and it let me gained experience with a couple new types of experimental assays. I was also working under an M.D., Ph.D. who had offered to let me shadow him as well as work in his lab, which got me a bunch of shadow hours too.
What I wish was different
I wish it was a little closer to where I was living, the commute was about an hour, which wasn't terrible, but it can still be a little draining after spending hours in a single space.
Advice
In a research setting be prepared for things not to work, sometimes your experiment just won't work and you'll have absolutely no idea why.

Intern
June - August 2019 • Baltimore, MD
What I liked
I was able to learn complete projects at the Adult Inpatient Pharmacy and shadow various pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to understand what their daily tasks were. I liked being able to do these things, as well as everyone in the pharmacy being so kind and accomodating. Although I was not part of their formal internship program, they were kind enough to include me in their intern meetings, activities, and learning experiences.
What I wish was different
I wish that I had applied directly into their internship program as it was paid. Although I thoroughly enjoyed being able to work on various projects, it was a lot of hard work and it would have been nice to get paid for doing so.
Advice
This is a great experience for anyone interested in the pharmacy field. I was able to learn about the processes of the adult inpatient pharmacy, as well as shadow various professionals on their daily tasks. Being able to experience a hospital pharmacy first hand was such a rewarding experience and has helped me greatly in deciding my future career.
