Summer Student

June - August 2018 • Farmington, CT

What I liked

I loved everything about my experience working at JAX. Not only the people who I worked with in the Williams lab but every employee, from the CEO to the security guards, were absolutely amazing. The work environment is one of support and collaboration where everyone wants to see you succeed.

What I wish was different

I don't think anything could have been different because it was already a great place to work and an amazing opportunity.

Advice

I would tell other students to start their research presentations early to give yourself enough time to perfect it for the symposium at the end of the program.

What I liked

The beauty of living next to the ocean in a mansion on a cliff made researching at the world's best genomics lab that uses mice models an unforgettable experience. The people you meet at the institution and during your stay at Bar Harbor become contacts near and dear to you.

Summer Student

June - August 2018 • Bar Harbor, ME

What I liked

I learned and experienced so much in my short time there. I learned to immunostain, dissect, and image mouse eyes, and presented my research. And I also got to attend seminars on various topics regarding genetics. I learned many lab techniques and a lot about myself as well. I had the opportunity to explore Acadia National park and tried hiking and whitewater rafting for the first time. I met with other summer students who had the same interests and love for science that I do.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more time and was able to inform myself better on the topic so I could really interact and contribute with the experiments I conducted.

Advice

Be confident in yourself and don’t be intimidated by or scared of trying new things. It’s not always as difficult as it may first seem!
