I really enjoyed being able to learn about the other side of the ice business. I've been working as a delivery driver for this company while attending university, and now I have a first-hand perspective of the extensive structure behind the business. It's mind boggling how much coordination it takes to manage the distribution of your own product. The technology that is implemented throughout all aspects of their operation is incredible.
What I wish was different
I enjoyed the overall experience, but it would have been nice to have more office space. The Grand Rapids office is a bit small so sometimes work spaces would be crowded. However, being located so close to everyone in the office gave us more opportunities to interact with each other. If I were an intern Home City Ice again, I would spend some extra time reorganizing.
Advice
One thing I would say is that you have to be ready for the unexpected. There will definitely be times where you will be nervous about what you're doing, but you have to find a way to get used to it. That is how you learn and grow. Don't psyche yourself out by questioning whether or not you can measure up to what's required of you. Instead, leap right in and choose to bring your best mind into every situation.
