The Heritage Foundation

Marketing Intern

May - August 2019 • Washington, DC

What I liked

I loved that I was treated like an actual employee. I was asked to create marketing material that was used for events and invitations.

What I wish was different

I wish that we had been paid a little bit more.

Advice

Always ask for more work than they give. It shows that you care about your position.

Marketing Intern

May - August 2019 • Washington, DC

What I liked

The Heritage Foundation is a great place for young people to work who are interested in diving head first into the DC political environment. In addition to an internship where you do actual work for the foundation, the intern class has daily policy briefings and lunch lectures where policy experts brief the class on the most current issues circulating in politics. The program also includes young professional work including resume workshops, interview prep, etiquette, and various networking opportunities.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have stayed and worked longer.

Advice

Get ready for a three month long interview. If you're successful and make good connections, it'll be very easy to finish with a job or job prospects.

Economic Research Intern

May - August 2018 • Washington, DC

What I liked

The research experience at Heritage is like no other. I was thrilled to have applied my Hillsdale education to my time in the Center for International Trade and Economics. The internship also had an excellent education component. The First Principles lunches were informative and fun.

What I wish was different

I would’ve liked to have been there longer. The summer is just too short. Also, the virtual machines rather than computers were frustrating.

Advice

Keep the connections. With superiors and fellow interns.
