What I wish was different

I wish I had been paid more, wish I had gotten more experience with different age groups (it was a summer camp, and I was mostly with the older kids)

Museum Programs and Outreach Initiatives Intern

June - August 2018 • Philadelphia, PA

What I liked

It was super flexible in terms of what you did and when you had to finish different projects. The projects themselves were very different and could be molded to fit your interests. Side projects (i.e. community activities) were really fun and insightful experiences.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have learned more about the specific and more extensive administrative jobs the different museum programmers had in their jobs. Although you can learn a lot by talking to them, being a volunteer and being an employee at the museum are completely different experiences.

Advice

Talk to your coworkers and other employees about their background, how they got to their current job, and the roles that they have in their position. Be open to trying new things and take more responsibility as it is given!
